How to compute overtime pay

Overtime is work beyond your normal 8 hours. The formula is the same every time — only the multiplier changes with the type of day:

Overtime pay = Hourly rate × Multiplier × Overtime hours

Your hourly rate is your daily wage ÷ 8. If you're monthly-paid, it's monthly salary ÷ working days per month ÷ 8 — the calculator above does this for you when you pick "Monthly salary".

Working past 10 PM? Add a 10% night differential on top of the overtime rate for each hour between 10 PM and 6 AM — the calculator adds this automatically when you fill the night-hours field.

Know your rights on overtime

"Is my employer computing my OT correctly?"

Plug in your real hourly rate and hours above and compare with your payslip. A frequent shortchange is paying plain hourly rate (×1.0) instead of the ×1.25 ordinary-day premium, or forgetting the night differential.

"Can I be forced to do overtime?"

Generally overtime must be voluntary, with limited exceptions (emergencies, urgent machine repairs, perishable goods). When required, it must always be paid at the premium rates above — never as plain pay.

"Does overtime increase my 13th month pay?"

No. Overtime is taxable compensation, but it's excluded from the base for your 13th month pay, which uses basic salary only.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the overtime pay rate in the Philippines?
On an ordinary day, overtime (work beyond 8 hours) is paid at your hourly rate plus 25% — that is 125% of the hourly rate. The premium is higher on rest days and special days (169%) and highest on regular holidays (260%). Night work between 10 PM and 6 AM adds a further 10% differential.
How do you compute overtime pay?
Overtime pay = hourly rate × overtime multiplier × overtime hours. For example, an hourly rate of ₱100 with 2 hours of ordinary-day overtime is ₱100 × 1.25 × 2 = ₱250.
How is overtime computed on a rest day or holiday?
On a rest day or special non-working day the overtime multiplier is 1.69 (130% × 130%). On a regular holiday it is 2.60 (200% × 130%), and on a regular holiday that is also your rest day it is 3.38. The calculator applies the correct multiplier when you pick the day type.
What is night differential?
Night differential is an extra 10% of your hourly rate for every hour worked between 10:00 PM and 6:00 AM. It stacks on top of any overtime or holiday premium for those hours.
What is the maximum overtime allowed in the Philippines?
The Labor Code does not set a hard daily cap on overtime for most private-sector workers, but overtime must be voluntary (with limited exceptions) and properly compensated. Special rules apply to night workers, minors and certain industries — confirm with DOLE.
Is my employer required to pay overtime, and who is exempt?
Yes — for covered rank-and-file employees, overtime work beyond 8 hours a day must be paid at the premium rates above; it cannot be waived. The Labor Code, however, excludes certain workers from overtime pay: managerial employees and officers, field personnel whose hours cannot be determined, the employer's family members who depend on them, domestic helpers, and workers paid purely by results. If you are a covered employee, unpaid overtime is a violation you can raise with DOLE.
What counts as overtime in the Philippines?
The normal hours of work are 8 hours a day. Any time you are required to work beyond those 8 hours is overtime and earns the premium. Work on a rest day, special day or regular holiday is paid at the special day-type rates even within the first 8 hours, and overtime on those days stacks an additional premium on top.
